Our recent ZOOZ Mother's day function was a truly magnificent event. We had an excellent attendance despite a few last minute apologies. We all greatly cherished the opportunity to share the fun and passion of Israeli dancing with our families. The spirit and vibe created throughout the morning was warm, loving and embracing. The music, dancing and family togetherness touched everyone in their own special way.
There are no words to describe how wonderful it was watching mothers & daughter/grandmothers/granddaughters, aunts, sisters & husbands, all dancing together with beaming smiles and laughter. For many of our dancers it was a great opportunity to not only dance some simple dances together with their families, but also an opportunity to show off some of their dancing skills.
In our own family, there were 4 generations dancing together side-by-side, hand-in hand. (There was Richelle, her mother Sonia, sister Suzy, daughter Belinda, and granddaughter Brooke). Some of the young girls who attend our weekend children's classes also attended with their mothers, grandmothers and aunties who have also been Israeli dancing for many years (namely, Colette, her daughter Eleanor, her mother Frankie, auntie Sarah, and niece Yarden).
The hall was beautifully transformed into a pink fairyland, decorated (once again with great assistance from Claude) with masses of pink balloons, special mother's day paintings by children, funny quotes about motherhood, and love hearts all around the room. We enjoyed a morning tea of magnificent scones with jam and cream, an assortment of cakes, fresh fruit and herbal teas.
Although mother and daughter team, Richelle and Belinda, teach and dance together regularly throughout the week at ZOOZ, it was particularly moving for them and others when they embraced the opportunity to co-teach the circle dance ‘Imma' (Mother) (choreographed by Eli Segal and sung by Shlomi Shabbat & Yossi Azulay),to the crowd in attendance. There could be no one else and no other time more appropriate to introduce this dance and its beautiful music and lyrics.
We raised just over $170.00 in our raffle to raise money for the Breast Cancer Network Australia thanks to Brumby's Bakery (Brighton), who kindly donated 2 x $50.00 vouchers as prizes.
The feedback from all the participants was the best we have ever had after an event, so we will certainly be repeating this event next year. The families who came to watch and participate could now certainly understand why their mothers/daughters were so crazy about Israeli dancing.
